Until There Was You is the second book in Jessica Scott’s Coming Home series, and my first ever read by her. It most certainly will not be my last. I was wowed by the fact that this was only her 2nd published book!
One of the aspects that I really enjoyed about this book was the author’s amazing storytelling capability. She wrote fantastic characters (both main & secondary), gave them a strong & believable plot and then worked her magic combining the two to make a fabulous finished product. The authentic feel that she brings to this book from her years in the military is what sets this book apart for me. Not only do we get the action scenes that I love in a good military romance novel, but we also get to see the preparation behind going to war, the lasting effects after coming home from war and the fierce bonds forged between friends who’ve served together.
Claire & Evan struggle with their attraction to each other. They both think that it is a bad idea to act on the feelings that have developed between them. Neither of them think they are worthy of the other’s love. For me, their relationship was very realistic & authentic. It mirrors the insecurities and trust issues that a lot of us go through forging new relationships. However, it was also frustrating and slow going because of that. It takes awhile for them to overcome the barriers they’ve placed on the road to each other. Once they do, their love story is beautiful and well worth the wait it took to get there.
Well done Jessica! I can’t wait to read more, especially Reza’s story...ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review Reply
